I had to come up with at least one resolution that would be easy to stick to for 2021. So, I decided to try a new beer every month this year. My plan is to try a new beer or two in each of the following categories: stout, porter, brown ale, Irish red ale, pale ale, American IPA, American wheat, Belgian wheat, lager, pilsner, Saison, and Kolsch. The January issue of HyVee’s Seasons magazine has a good list of basic beer types to help you get started if you want to borrow my resolution. I am going to start with the heavier styles of beer, such as stout and porter, for these colder winter months when a malty beer just seems right. It may take some searching to find beers I haven’t tried, but HyVee’s wine and spirits team is always a big help in searching out the newest beers they have in stock.
