Happy Cinco de Mayo

Today is Cinco de Mayo, and people have been stocking up on tequila. For the past four weeks it has been the top-selling liquor in the country with sales up 54.2%. I’ve shared my classic margarita recipe before, but this year I thought it would be fun to share someone else’s recipe. Sammy Hagar, like the rest of us, will most likely be spending Cinco de Mayo at home and that seems like as good a reason as any to imbibe in a little cocktail. Sammy has said that he likes his margaritas a little sour so you may want to add a little simple syrup or more agave syrup to the recipe.

Sammy suggests using his Santo Mezquila to make a Santo Mezquila Margarita. Here is the recipe:

  • 1 oz of fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 oz Fresh tangerine or orange juice
  • 1/2 oz of orange liquor
  • 1/2 teaspoon of agave syrup
  • 1/2 oz of Damiana Herb Liqueur(if not available, double whatever sweetener you’re using)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of fresh grated orange peel.
  • 1 1/2 oz of his Santo Mezquila

He then says, “In a shaker full of ice shake vigorously! Pour through strainer into your choice of glass with a lightly salted rim. You can use a chili salt combination if you like a little heat. Some people like to pour the ice from the shaker into a bigger glass. I personally don’t like my drink to water down too much.”
